Bridges To Gaps is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to mentoring and supporting our youth. We offer life skills and educational programs to help young people reach their full potential and achieve their goals. Our experienced mentors guide and empower our students, equipping them with the tools and resources they need to succeed.
We understand that there is a unfair GAP between certain youth in this country, who hold less of probability of succeeding in life due to circumstances that they themselves hold no control over, such as; geographical location, status or race.
For example, in one 2009 study by the National Center for Children in Poverty at Columbia University, researchers found that children who grew up poor were not only more likely to experience poverty as adults, but that the likelihood of being poor in adulthood went up with the number of years spent in poverty as a child.
A 2015 Urban institute study that only 77.9 percent of children who experienced poverty completed high school, compared to 92.7 percent of children who never experienced poverty.
Homicide rates for teenagers in the poorest areas (poverty levels greater than 25%) are 18 times higher than homicide rates for teenagers in the wealthiest area (poverty levels less than 10%).

In addition to better school attendance and a better chance of going on to higher education, mentored youth maintain better attitudes toward school. (The Role of Risk, 2013)
A vast majority of educators — 95 % — say every student can benefit from having a one-on-one mentor, according to a recent survey of 1,418 grade 4-12 teachers from nonprofit Gradient Learning. Additionally, 82% said mentoring improves academic outcomes, and 83% said it helps students learn skills that support success.
6.2 percent of youth with mentors initiated drug use compared to 11.4 percent of their peers without mentors, and 19.4 percent initiated alcohol use compared to 26.7 percent. These findings were more substantial for minority youth (Tierny et al., 1995).
Together, we can create positive change. Support our cause and help us make a lasting impact on our youth and our communities.
